The Two Truths – a retreat weekend with Geshe Tsultrim

24 August @ 9:00 am - 25 August @ 3:30 pm AEST

The two truths— the conventional truth and the ultimate truth—is one of the essential topics in Buddhism, and it relates to the way we normally perceive phenomena and the way phenomena actually exist.

When someone seeks to understand Buddhism, where should that person start: With the meaning of taking refuge in the three jewels? With the four noble truths? The Dalai Lama, when asked this question, suggested that for many in the West today, understanding the two truths, conventional truth and ultimate truth, is the best place to start.

Nagarjuna, the philosophical pioneer of the Middle Way system, proclaimed the importance of the two truths in his Treatise on the Middle Way:This retreat weekend will start with Geshela teaching at 9.00am on Saturday morning 24th August

The doctrines that Buddha taught are based upon two truths:

Worldly conventional truths and truths that are ultimate objects.

Those who do not know the distinction between these two truths

Do not know the profound suchness in Buddha’s teaching.”

Although of course it is more beneficial to attend the entire weekend, students will still be welcome to attend an individual session if that is their routine. A full schedule will be posted here soon.

All sessions will be available in person and on zoom

About our Teacher:

Our resident Tibetan teacher, Geshe Phuntsok Tsultrim is immensely popular for the warm and approachable way in which he presents the teachings and inspires our community. He became a monk at Sera Je Monastery in India, where he was awarded his Geshe degree (the equivalent of a doctorate in Buddhist studies) in 2005. He began teaching at Chenrezig Institute in 2014 after being chosen for our community by Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

Geshe Tsultrim has a warm-hearted, caring and practical approach to teaching Dharma. He has been the resident Geshe at Chenrezig Institute since 2014 and since then, he has taught Dharma both formally in the Gompa, and by the example he sets amongst the community.

The recommended contribution for this weekend is $120.

BUT – you may pay whatever you feel comfortable with starting at only $1

A payment of $60 will just about cover our basic costs, but your $120 contribution will help us to continue to offer these precious teachings to so many – often completely free of charge.
