The potential of the mind and the mindful body

14/05/2023 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm AEST

About Event:

with Jane Shamrock and Venerable Dechen

The word mind is “citta” in Sanskrit, and has a wide range of meanings in English such as feelings, emotions, attention, intelligence and awareness, to name a few.

However, for many of us, the mind seems to be a source of distress eg wanting something difficult like a perfect and smooth relationship or experiencing problem emotions such as anger, jealousy or depression.

Buddhism however, considers all the mental activity of experiencing life as “mind” and sincere Buddhist practice is one way to transform our life experiences for the better.

In this hybrid workshop, we offer a selection of activities to experience the power of positive life experiences such as meditation and gratitude. We will also experience how comfort in the body, with the help of the Feldenkrais Method of movement awareness, can help calm agitation and support a positive mind.

About Teacher:

Jane has been a Buddhist practitioner for many years and in recent years can generally be found in the Chenrezig Art Studio.
However, Jane is also a Feldenkrais practitioner. She has a fascination for how the human body can be affected by both the external environment and the inner workings of the mind and is very interested in how each of us can manage these influences.

About Teacher:

Venerable Dechen was first introduced to Buddhism over 30 years ago and was instantly intrigued by the concept of mind training. She moved to Bendigo where Atisha Centre was her refuge, she brought up 2 children as a single mother and had a career as a registered nurse.  She realised that engaged Buddhism is an essential part of the teachings and this became her practice. She was offered ordination at the encouragement of Lama Zopa Rinpoche in 2019 and hopes to be able to impart some of the tips that have helped her to remain sane over the years.
