Ben Isbel Intro to Mindfulness

We apologise that for family reasons Ben Isbel is now unable to teach this weekend course, and the event has been cancelled.  Ben will be leading the same Introduction to Mindfulness course on 24th and 25th September.  Please register via this link if you would like to attend the next course:

About Event:

This 2 day mindfulness course will run from 9:00am – 4:30pm both days. Participants should be able to attend both days (ie: attending only on day 2 will not be permitted, as day 2 relies on having attended day 1.

Contemporary mindfulness practices are everywhere at the moment. You’ll find mindfulness in schools, wellbeing centres, in hospitals and psychology clinics, in elite sports management and high-powered business boardrooms. Mindfulness seems to be everywhere these days, but how is it done and what is the point?

On this first day of this course we will take a close look at how to develop your own authentic mindfulness practice with a detailed discussion on the mindfulness technique itself. On day 2, we will look at how to refine and develop this practice, leading to greater proficiency and insight. The practice of mindfulness is grounded in the Buddha’s teaching and so this simple yet profound practice can lead us directly into the heart of the Buddha’s wisdom. In this way we may come to see that mindfulness can take us far beyond what we may have thought possible.

About Teacher:

Ben has been involved in the study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism for over 25 years and is a former student of the BP programme at Chenrezig Institute. His experience spans Theravadin and Mahayana Buddhist traditions. He has previously taught at Tashi Khangmar Samdrup Ling, Khensur Rinpoche Geshe Tashi Tsering’s Brisbane based School of Buddhist Science.

Ben is a neuroscientist working at the Sunshine Coast based Thompson Institute where he conducts research into the effects of mindfulness training, both on the brain and behaviour.

After completing a B. of Psychology (Hons), he went on to complete a PhD in the neuroscience of mindfulness, where he developed a contemporary psychological model of mindfulness practice derived from Buddhist sources.
