Introduction to Mindfulness with Ben Isbel

24/09/2022 @ 9:00 am - 25/09/2022 @ 4:30 pm AEST

Ben Isbel Intro to Mindfulness

About Event:

This 2 day mindfulness course will run from 9:00am – 4:30pm both days. Participants should be able to attend both days (ie: attending only on day 2 will not be permitted, as day 2 relies on having attended day 1.

Contemporary mindfulness practices are everywhere at the moment. You’ll find mindfulness in schools, wellbeing centres, in hospitals and psychology clinics, in elite sports management and high-powered business boardrooms. Mindfulness seems to be everywhere these days, but how is it done and what is the point?

On this first day of this course we will take a close look at how to develop your own authentic mindfulness practice with a detailed discussion on the mindfulness technique itself. On day 2, we will look at how to refine and develop this practice, leading to greater proficiency and insight. The practice of mindfulness is grounded in the Buddha’s teaching and so this simple yet profound practice can lead us directly into the heart of the Buddha’s wisdom. In this way we may come to see that mindfulness can take us far beyond what we may have thought possible.

About Teacher:

Ben Isbel is a mindfulness teacher with over 25 years of experience spanning both traditional Buddhist meditation techniques and contemporary psychological approaches to mindfulness. Ben has studied in the Theravadin and Mahayana Buddhist traditions and holds a B. of Psychology (Honours) and a PhD in Psychology.

Until recently Ben was the Research Program Coordinator at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Healthy Brain Ageing Clinic where he investigated the use of mindfulness to prevent the development of age-related cognitive decline and dementia in older adults. As a neuroscientist and contemplative researcher, Ben has developed a comprehensive cognitive model of mindfulness and has used advanced EEG techniques to show how mindfulness training can improve cognition and mood in older adults while at the same time transforming the ageing brain.

Ben is currently offering mindfulness training at Pramana Wellbeing in Palmwoods on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
