HEART SUTRA – Weekend retreat with Geshe Tsultrim

27 April @ 9:00 am - 28 April @ 3:30 pm AEST

The Heart of the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra is perhaps the most widely known sutra of the Mahayana tradition and is often recited daily by practitioners all over the world, particularly before receiving Dharma teachings. Part of the Prajnaparamita Sutras, the Heart Sutra is a condensed presentation of the wisdom of emptiness, as revealed by Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig) to Shariputra (one of the Buddha’s main disciples), under the power of the meditation of the Buddha, on Vulture’s Peak in Rajgir, India.

As part of our new program structure, which we hope responds to the evolving needs of our students, we are offering monthly weekend retreat courses with Geshe Tsultrim and recently, at Geshe Tsultrim’s suggestion, we polled students on our direct email lists about what topics they would like to receive teachings on.

The Heart of the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra (the Heart Sutra) was a very popular choice, and with the Heart Sutra Retreat being offered at Kopan in April (as wished for by Lama Zopa Rinpoche), it is a perfect subject to offer now.

This extended retreat weekend will start with Geshela teaching at 9.00am on Saturday morning 27th April.

Students will still be welcome to attend an individual session if they wish A full schedule will be posted here soon.

All sessions will be available in person and on zoom

About our Teacher:

Our resident Tibetan teacher, Geshe Phuntsok Tsultrim is immensely popular for the warm and approachable way in which he presents the teachings and inspires our community. He became a monk at Sera Je Monastery in India, where he was awarded his Geshe degree (the equivalent of a doctorate in Buddhist studies) in 2005. He began teaching at Chenrezig Institute in 2014 after being chosen for our community by Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

Geshe Tsultrim has a warm-hearted, caring and practical approach to teaching Dharma. He has been the resident Geshe at Chenrezig Institute since 2014 and since then, he has taught Dharma both formally in the Gompa, and by the example he sets amongst the community.
