Finding Freedom: Meditations On The Mind with Rob Gillow

28 February @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm AEST

$1.00

About Event:

“One should stabilise the mind in meditative concentration, since a person whose mind is distracted lives between the fangs of mental afflictions.”  Shantideva: A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life.

Operating from within the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, we often overlook our most essential relationship, the one that we have with ourselves. Caught up in the currents of responsibilities, commitments, and the constant clamour of distractions, we seldom prioritise the simple act of being present with our own minds. Even during those rare moments dedicated to relaxation—a leisurely walk or a session in the sauna—our minds often remain entangled in the relentless cycles of stress, planning, and the quest for relief from worries, anxieties, fears, and boredom.

This 6-week program, consisting of 6 x 1.5hr sessions is an invitation to learn/relearn/practise some of the essential skills associated with the art of being present with our own minds. The practices, known traditionally as Shamatha and Vipassana, focus on the cultivation of mindfulness and insight. Together these meditation practices provide a genuine path to inner wellness, and outer harmony.

Ideally, make the commitment to attend the full 6 weeks as the sessions will build upon one another, but also feel free to drop into any sessions individually.

There is no need to register formally but as Rob recommends, it would be most beneficial to make the commitment to attend all the six sessions. Those who cannot do this are welcome to drop in at any session.

The sessions are all held in the Well Being Centre.
