Easter Retreat – Arya Tara Retreat

06/04/2023 @ 6:00 pm - 10/04/2023 @ 2:00 pm AEST

$30.00 – $150.00

About Event:

In an effort to create conditions that will support our Chenrezig Institute community and generally inspire us, we have been placing special emphasis on the practices of Arya Tara through the first part of 2023. This is directly connected to Geshela’s request that we recite 100,000 Praises to the 21 Taras in order to remove all obstacles to being able to effortlessly realise the vision for the centre that he outlined at a recent community meeting.

Subduing outer obstacles is only really relevant if we use those conducive conditions to subdue our own minds, and so we are encouraged to engage in the practices of Arya Tara the Liberator, who is quick to respond to our prayers.

Geshe Tsultrim has kindly agreed to lead the Easter retreat this year and to continue the theme of Arya Tara practice through that. He will offer teachings each day including commentary on the practice of Arya Tara we will be using for the retreat.

For us this represents a great chance to cultivate virtue, to support Geshela and Chenrezig Institute now and into the future, and to subdue the inner and outer obstacles that hinder our experience of happiness.

In the words of Lama Zopa Rinpoche “Wow! Wow! Wow!,

This retreat is ideal for both experienced students, those who have taken refuge with Geshela and/or received the lung for the Tara Mantra and the 21 Praises at the conclusion of the January Lamrim Retreat, as well as those who are just starting to attend his teachings.

It is not necessary to have received any initiation or lung to participate in the retreat. Included in the schedule will be an explanation of the Buddhist path and the various parts of the practice itself.

The retreat will start with an introductory session with Miffi Maximillion on Thursday 6th April at 6.00pm followed by a Tara Puja. Those unable to be at the centre in time to attend this session, should try to follow it on zoom or YouTube. (these details will be found on the ticket you receive after registering).

Participants are encouraged to come early in the afternoon (by 3.00pm) to establish the mandala and to please plan to stay after lunch on the 10th to dissolve the mandala, pack up your retreat seats and collect your “Dharma goodies”

Geshela has agreed to teach on Arya Tara every morning and there will be sessions of meditation and recitation throughout the rest of the day.

This retreat promises to be an amazing opportunity!!

Please contact info@chenrezig.com.au for accommodation/meal bookings throughout the retreat. If you are coming in for a single day, you may book lunch online in the usual way (24 hours ahead please).

About Our Teacher:

Geshe Phuntsok Tsultrim is immensely popular for the warm and approachable way in which he presents the Dharma and inspires our community. He became a monk at Sera Je Monastery in India, where he was awarded his Geshe degree (the equivalent of a doctorate in Buddhist studies) in 2005. He began teaching at Chenrezig Institute in 2014 after being chosen for our community by Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

Geshe Tsultrim has a warm-hearted, caring and practical approach to teaching Dharma. He has been the resident Geshe at Chenrezig Institute since 2014. Since then he has taught Dharma from both inside the Gompa and by the example he sets outside in the community.

Geshela will be assisted during the retreat by Miffi Maximillion – well known to many of us from her fabulous Dharma Kit Bag workshops!

Miffi runs the spiritual program at Langri Tangpa Centre, the FPMT centre in Brisbane, and is a registered FPMT teacher. She was brought up a Buddhist and had the great good fortune to play with Lama Yeshe as a child.  His hook of compassion sustained her through the many rebellious stages of growing up.  She took refuge with Lama Yeshe at age 10 and did her first Lamrim and Nyung Na retreats with Lama Zopa Rinpoche at age 16.

She left behind a thriving haute couture and costume business to help her mother Inta Mckimm, who established Langri Tangpa Centre, when she became sick with cancer.  Packing her bags for two weeks, she ended up continuing her mother’s life work.  She is still there, teaching classes and leading pujas with great enthusiasm and joy, over twenty years later!

Miffi’s passion is in bridging the seemingly disparate worlds of modern life and the rich inner experience of Buddhist practice. She readily admits to watching far too much late-night TV and is an avid New Yorker Magazine reader.

Wherever possible, all participants should try to bring their own mandala sets to use during the pujas.

Registration is now open for the whole retreat and also for single days both in person and online. Accommodation for less than the whole retreat will not, however be available until closer to the time on 24th March, to allow those wishing to attend fully to book in more easily.
