Dharma Kids

04/03/2023 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm AEST

About Event:

An introduction to the Buddha. Who was he? What did he do? What did he say?

Dharma Kids is Chenrezig Institute’s new program for primary school children. It builds on many years of past children’s programs and includes a few new features.

Starting in March 2023 Dharma Kids will be offered twice a month on the first and third Saturdays of each month. The core program includes learning about the Buddha and how Buddhism can help in our daily lives. The emphasis though is still on secular ethics, something His Holiness Dalai Lama often speaks about.

New activities will be included in the program and some will be held in different locations within the Chenrezig grounds such as the Art Studio and Garden of Enlightenment. There will also be a few sessions offered each year that are just for parents. These special activities will be advertised in advance so keep an eye on the website and newsletter.

Dharma Kids is on the first and third Saturdays each month from 10:30 – 12:00. The suggested contribution of $5.00 per child covers all materials used in the Dharma Kids program.

It’s ok to just turn up on the day but booking in through the website (below) ensures we have sufficient materials prepared. Children must be accompanied by an adult. It’s a good idea to always bring a hat and water bottle because most days will include a walk outside. Art and craft form a part of every session so it’s best that children don’t wear their very best clothes.

Dharma Kids is aimed at 5-12 year olds. Activities do not specifically cater to under 5s, but please let us know if you are interested in activities for younger children.

Venerable Wangmo is a retired teacher who worked mostly with primary school children as a classroom teacher and teacher of students with learning difficulties.

She also taught in high school, TAFE and university settings. Wangmo spent 30 years dabbling with different Buddhist schools before meeting the Mahayana, and settling into more formal studies. She was ordained in 2020 by our own Geshe Tsultrim.

Please register below – your contribution of $5 to cover materials is appreciated. Parents should accompany children.
