Art Studio Workshop : Paper from Plants with Zela Bissett

13 July @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm AEST

About Event:

In this half day workshop, participants will learn how to form botanical paper from plant fibres.

The plant pulp will be prepared ahead of time and the workshop time will be spent with the tutor demonstrating and participants learning how to make sheets of paper to take home.

Plant fibres make richly textured paper which has natural earthy colours and is useful for collage and card making as well as other art forms.

The sheets will still be wet and drying is completed at home, so bring along a clipboard or cardboard sheet to support your soft papers on the journey home.

About the Artist:

Susan Zela Bissett (Zela) has a long involvement in the arts, writing, environmental education and advocacy.

Zela was born on Butchulla Country and has worked as an artist, designer, educator, permaculture gardener, studio potter and sustainability consultant.

In 2019 she left full time teaching to devote herself to arts practice and research.

Zela’s work combines Art and Science, often using natural, environmentally sustainable materials including office waste, foraged fibres, re-purposed fabrics, cooked weeds, salvaged timber and even the invasive cat’s claw vine to create works with a minimum of bought inputs under the motto: Found, formed and foraged.

The cost of the workshop is $35.00 each participant
