Guru Rinpoche Workshop with Andy Weber

21/10/2022 @ 6:30 pm - 23/10/2022 @ 4:00 pm AEST

This weekend course will explore the remarkable Mahasiddha Padmasambhava who stabilized the first wave of Dharma into Tibet in the 8th century. Invited by the king Trisong Detsen on advice of the Indian pandit Shantrashita who encountered obstacles in establishing the first monastery in Tibet. Known for his mystical and magical powers Guru Rinpoche overcame the local opposition and laid the foundation for the now known old school of  Even today, followers of the lineage still rely on his hidden treasures (termas) and the direct teaching and instructions he left behind. He is revered by all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

Students will receive hands-on-tuition to draw the Guru figure and instructions to complete their painting.

Meditation, mantra recitation and prayers will make the course a unique and deep experience and provide an opportunity to learn about one of the remarkable figures in Tibet’s history.

The result is not as important as the path getting there. A modest artistic talent is required.  Genuine perseverance and devotion to the subject is preferred.

Students are invited to stay for both workshops offered at Chenrezig Institute by Andy – all four teaching days – or can register for either of his workshops individually. (See separate event – a workshop on Painting Statue Faces and Opening the Eyes 24th/25th October)

Andy Weber has devoted more than 35 years to studying iconography in Tibetan Buddhism under the great Indian and Nepalese masters. It is this depth of knowledge as well as his artistic skill that makes his work so revered, with many works being commissioned by Tibetan lama’s and monastics as well as western Buddhists. Andy has been a great supporter of Chenrezig Art Studio and it is wonderful that he is able to return to teach here again now.

The artist Andy Weber spent eight years in India and Nepal studying the iconographic art of Tibetan Buddhism under the guidance of accomplished masters in northern India and Nepal. His unique style is highly respected not only by the growing number of western Buddhists but also by many Tibetan lamas who have commissioned his work. His work has appeared throughout the world in many Buddhist temples, numerous publications and exhibitions.

He divides his time between teaching and lecturing all over the world, and painting and drawing for various projects. He is also the artist and co-author with Jon Landaw of the book “Images of Enlightenment”. and has published numerous instruction manuals.
