CHOKHOR DUCHEN – The First Turning of the Wheel

01/08/2022 @ 6:00 am - 7:30 pm AEST

About Event:

Chokhor Duchen, one of the four annual holy days of Guru Shakyamuni Buddha, takes place this year on 1st August. On these holy days, the power of any meritorious action is multiplied by 100 million. It commemorates the anniversary of Guru Shakyamuni Buddha’s first teaching turning the wheel of Dharma for the first time at Sarnath by teaching the four noble truths.

Chokhor Duchen is also International Sangha Day, when we celebrate the sangha of the International Mahayana Institute (IMI) – the community of Buddhist monks and nuns of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition.

We celebrate this auspicious day at Chenrezig Institute by coming together as a community to engage in prayers and meritorious activities and rejoice in the positive karmic potential created by ourselves and others.
